“Reading Jaron Lanier’s ‘You Are Not a Gadget’ and disagree that file sharing culture has ruined business for musicians. It has just put us back to the time of live performances as money making. Pre-recorded albums like records, casettes, and CDs are relatively recent technologies too, and yes their physicality allowed sales. But did pre-20th century musicians ever have that option? No. In any case, file sharing has stressed physicality in music and almost makes itself unimportant.” —

Detroit philanthropists fund M1 light rail for Motor City - Feb. 15, 2010 → money.cnn.com

I think 5 generations from now, we will look at cars how we now look at cigarettes: From once a luxury, to then a ubiquitous obsession, to then a backlash and host of legal restrictions after the widespread realization of what it does to us and others.

Detroit, home to the automobile corporation failure of America (a.k.a. what it looks like when an expensive product loses its customer base), may actually beat other cities in getting its street-top railway (re)installed.

And to think, so many cities had this infrastructure in place before they were torn-out in the 1950s for personal automobiles, parking lots, sprawl.
